On June 16, 2007 our ATV Club met at the snowmobile club in Collingwood for our third
annual fun run. There were twenty-nine 4 wheelers that showed up for the run., with
40 people attending. Anson and Cece Weatherbee from the Cumberland County Riders,
Amherst, Alvin and Ellie Patriquin, Lewis Thomson and his girl friend, Mark Jamieson
just to mention a few. Ralph and Jean were unable to make it, for earlier Ralph hurt
his foot while he was mowing his yard. Ralph loaned John and I his trailer so we
could take our 4 wheeler up to Collingwood. Ralph, we hope you will be feeling much
better and will be able to make it to the next ride. We started out at 10:00am on
Saturday morning with our president wishes of having a great time. The day was cool
and overcast, as we drove toward the five islands. The scenery in places was breath
taking, I took some pictures as you will see. On arriving in five islands we stopped
at a restaurant called GRANNYS. John had fish and chips. I had the clams and chips.
The food was really good. Hope we can make it again. On leaving the restaurant we
noticed a large eagle fly over head. The largest I have ever seen. Sorry I didn’t
get a picture of it. On the way home through water holes and over rough terrain we
all arrived back to Ernie and Sharon Brown’s cottage for hamburgers and pop. The
only thing that happened, Ron Urquhart had trouble with his bike and Jim Simpson
and some other man went back and got him going, to mention a few that went back.
While we were waiting for them to fix Ron’s bike we did have some sprinkles of rain
which help to invite the mosquitoes which seemed to be quite hungry. We never encountered
any more problems on our ride. We all got back to the Snowmobile club and picked
up our vehicles and left for home a lot happier for having such a great day. As a
result of the ride we acquired seven new members and netted $120.00 for the club
for trail maintenance.
